Geowulf’s ‘Dolly’ Embraces Highly Personal Lyricism

With country-tinged harmonies...

Australian songwriter Geowulf returns with new single ‘Dolly’.

The singer – real name Star Kendrick – has evolved the project through numerous iterations, with Geowulf now acting as a solo statement. New single ‘Dolly’ takes her a step further, transposing her alt-pop wonders into a countrified setting.

Out now, the title is a knowing wink to Dolly Parton, with Geowulf aiming to absorb a little of her magic. This is far from a re-tread, however, twisting those Americanas aspects into fresh shapes while also holding on to her core identity.

A song about femme energy – motherhood, break-ups, and learning to accept vulnerability into your life – it was penned alongside Ben Christopher (Bat For Lashes) and developed by Geoffrey Roberts (The Vaccines).

Geowulf comments…

“The song is about running out of patience and deciding to move forward. It’s about feelings that can resurface only to realise they are feelings and not facts. I have always loved Dolly Parton and have been influenced by her music a lot in my writing so this was a nice little nod to her. Sad country music is like a sauna for my soul.”
