New Jersey group Gaslight Anthem have paid tribute to one of their hometown’s most famous residents.
Hailing from New Jersey, The Gaslight Anthem’s gritty blue collar sound has gained the group a cult following. With The Cure’s sense of heartbreak mingling with Springsteen type anthemics the band’s euphoric sound is tailor made for vast arenas.
Yet the band began life in the small clubs of New Jersey. Playing with like-minded groups The Gaslight Anthem epitomise the the so-called ‘Jersey Shore Sound’ – an aggressive, modernised take on the legacy of Americana.
The Gaslight Anthem’s debut album ‘Sink Or Swim’ passed under the radar, but near constant touring brought the band to the public’s attention. Follow up album ‘The 59 Sound’ was a critical smash and broke into the Billboard Top 100.
A blend of classic rock and the fury of punk, the album’s gritty lyrics detailed life in a hidden America, one normally kept away from the pop charts. The band are preparing to release title track ‘The 59 Sound’ as a single, but before then are set to play a number of festivals.
The Gaslight Anthem have been booked to play the upcoming Glastonbury event. One of Britain’s most iconic music festivals, the group’s classic rock thrills will no doubt go down a storm at the event.
Shortly after this The Gaslight Anthem will travel to London’s Hyde Park for Hard Rock Calling. Coincidentally both event are headlined by Bruce Springsteen, and in a new video the band have paid their own unique tribute to The Boss.
