Gang Of Four Work On New Album

Sell remixes, live cuts... Blood?

Punk-funk pioneers Gang Of Four have confirmed a series of unusual plans to involve fans in their new album.

Clutching guitars and Sociology degrees, Gang Of Four were never your average rock band. Too intelligent for starters, and too downright funky to boot. Never had the revolution sounded so danceable.

Set to return with their new album, Gang Of Four are to continue their exploration of capitalism – but this time it will be on their own terms. Setting up a deal with Pledge Music, the band are to sell a number of unusual items to fans in order to fund recording.

Amongst the more straight forward incentives are strictly limited edition ‘Ultimate Concert Cans’. Inside fans will find a copy of the new album alongside a book of artworks by Jon King and Andy Gill illustrating and analysing the last 40 years of world history.

In addition to this you will also be given a booklet of drawings depicting the band’s emotions, a few scratch and sniff diagrams and… a phial of blood.

Other incentives on offer include a limited edition cassette, containing the band’s first ever show on one side and the new album on the other. The tape will be housed in a Walkman that has been individually decorated with artwork by Jon King and Andy Gill.

Elsewhere, fans can bid on a private Gang Of Four exhibition and show, a signed guitar and an opportunity to have one of their own songs remixed by Gang Of Four.

Pretty bizarre. Of course, Gang Of Four aren’t the only band to attempt this with Patrick Wolf and Public Enemy both going down the fan-funded route.

Gang Of Four are set to release their new album later this year.
