Scottish indie group Frightened Rabbit have unveiled details of the first track to be released from their forthcoming third album.
Frightened Rabbit were formed by Scott Hutchison, a Borders based songwriter desperate to make music. Writing a clutch of songs the singer began working at open mic nights, gradually forming his group.
Debut album ‘Sing The Greys’ was released through Fat Cat Records, and earned warm reviews. Hutchison’s mixture of melodic invention and striking lyrics marked him out as a striking young songwriter.
Touring widely, the band’s second album ‘The Midnight Organ Fight’ really broke Frightened Rabbit amongst music fans. A huge leap forwards, the album won overwhelmingly positive reviews.
Since the release of ‘The Midnight Organ Fight’ last year Frightened Rabbit the band have toured widely, even venturing to the United States. After this the group took time off, with Scott Hutchison retreating to rural Fife to work on new material.
A solo performance at this year’s Homegame event saw Hutchison debut a new track, taken from the band’s as yet un-titled third album. Fans will get their first chance to hear a song from the record with the forthcoming release of the single ‘Swim Until You Can’t See The Land’.
Speaking about the song Scott Hutchison said: “I was becoming more and more interested in the idea of a rejection of the habits and behaviour most people see as normal, and in turn embracing a certain madness.”
“It’s about losing your mind in order to reset the mind and the body. Forget what’s gone before and wash it out. This is not necessarily a geographical journey, as the ‘swim’ can involve any activity in which you can lose yourself. It’s a good introduction to the record as the theme unravels therein.”
Frightened Rabbit are set to release ‘Swim Until You Can’t See The Land’ on November 16th.
