Frightened Rabbit have signed a new deal with Atlantic after releasing three albums on Fat Cat.
Formed by veterans from the Glasgow open mic circuit, Frightened Rabbit began as a vehicle for Scott Hutchison’s often explicitly autobiographical songs. Driven by a rare passion, the group have now become a phenomenon which cannot be ignored.
Releasing three albums of indie-folk the band have met heartbreak in the face and sang about it. A much loved group, the band’s association with Fat Cat saw the label briefly covered in tartan as the imprint signed more and more Scottish acts.
However all good things come to an end. After their new single ‘The Loneliness And The Scream’ comes out on November 22nd Frightened Rabbit are set to pack up their things and head to Atlantic.
Signing a major label deal, Frightened Rabbit are to begin work on their fourth album next year. “This week we signed a deal with Atlantic Records and after some time off next year to write new material, we will be releasing record no. four with this great label,” said Grant Hutchison.
“It feels very special to be part of a label with such a great history and we’re really looking forward to working with everybody we have met to this point. We also feel it’s important to mention how great the past four years have been with FatCat and although it is time to move on we are greatly appreciative of the amazing job they’ve done.”
Meanwhile, Fat Cat have released a statement bidding farewell to the much loved Scottish group. “FatCat is honored to have released three brilliant Frightened Rabbit records and to have had a hand in the evolution of such a phenomenally talented and hardworking band” the label said.
“As their fans, we look forward to hearing their future efforts, and as their friends, we look forward to celebrating future successes along with them.”
Frightened Rabbit are due to release ‘The Loneliness And The Scream’ on November 22nd.
