Group up for South Bank Award

Saint Albans shoegaze group Friendly Fires are celebrating after being nominated for a prestigious South Bank Breakthrough Award, it has been announced.

With their self-titled debut riding high in those end of year critical polls, Friendly Fires have been included in one of the first award ceremonies of 2009. The band mix shoegaze aesthetics with rave atmospherics, with their cover of ‘Your Love’ having to be heard to be believed.

A stunning live act, the band blew through the festival summer season leaving behind a sizzling trail of word of mouth hype.

Friendly Fires have been nominated for a South Bank Breakthrough Award, and voting is still open. Click here to vote, with polls closing on January 14th.

Nominated against bright lights from the world of theatre, literature and the arts competition is fierce for this prestigious award.

The South Bank Awards take place on January 28th.
