American experimental group Dirty Projectors are due to release their new album ‘Bitte Orca’ this summer, and are set to tease fans with a new download.
Dirty Projectors are a Brooklyn based group, led by former music student Dave Longstreth. The musician tired of the rigours of academic study, and yearned for a chance to indulge his creativity.
Debut album ‘The Graceful Fallen Mango’ is essentially a Longstreth solo effort, and since then the group have trodden a wide and varied path. Becoming cult heroes, Dirty Projectors recorded the album ‘Rise Above’ in 2007 – a covers album in which the group play versions of Black Flag tracks without consulting the original material.
As much a Dirty Projectors album as it is a Black Flag tribute, ‘Rise Above’ saw the group hailed as true originals. This new prominence led to the band signing with Domino records, where they will share a roster with new signings The Fall.
The band recently fulfilled a dream by recording a song with former Talking Heads mainman David Byrne. Dirty Projectors roped in Byrne for ‘Knotty Pine’ their contribution to the charity compilation ‘Dark Was The Night’.
Next month the band are due to work with another hero. A concert has been organised in which Dirty Projectors will collaborate with none other than Bjork, gathering two unique talents on the same stage.
Before then, though, fans can claim a free download track. ‘Stillness Is The Move’ is taken from forthcoming album ‘Bitte Orca’ the group’s debut for Domino. Already gaining reviews that no doubt make the band blush, the track is a remarkable trip into the imagination of Dave Longstreth.
The track will only be available over the Easter Weekend, so be quick. To claim your free track just click HERE!
Dirty Projectors are due to release their new album ‘Bitte Orca’ on June 9th.
