Freak Slug’s ‘Sorry, Not Sorry’ Is Adorable

Pop with Neo-psych traces from the Manchester riser...

Manchester artist Freak Slug has shared her new single ‘Sorry, Not Sorry’.

The songwriter’s incoming EP ‘I’m In Love’ is an absolute joy, melding together dream pop tropes with her own torn and tattered DIY aesthetic. A mesh of different sounds, the thread running through these songs is a message of female-forward independence.

She comments: “I want this EP to empower women and allow them to find the confidence to speak their truth honestly and fearlessly. I’m in Love is unapologetically about being our unique freakish selves.”

Picking up on this, ‘Sorry, Not Sorry’ deals with the way women are expected to apologise and make themselves smaller, even for things that have nothing to do with them. A moment of sly rebellion, the guitar-pop template has a cute shuffle to the rhythm, while the clipped guitars point to 80s pop tropes.

The production is raw and lo-fi, with Freak Slug commenting: “Full of attitude and fire. It brings unapologetic confidence to the audience in a playful and energetic way, reminding us never to apologise for how great we are, or for those who never believed in us.”

She also handles the visuals – right down to the press shot – and you can check out the video below.
