Franz Go Disco?

Third Album Rumours

Scots indie titans have kept fans waiting for their third album – and the band have now revealed a few details about their new sound.

In an interview with Radio 1’s Newsbeat, frontman Alex Kapranos has revealed that the band are close to putting the finishing touches to their long awaited third album at their studio in Glasgow. The band released their last album – “You Could Have It So Much Better” – in 2005, and fans are at fever pitch ahead of the new album.

The band have played only a handful of festivals this year, but have been keen to debut new material. There had been rumours that Franz Ferdinand were about to take an afro-beat direction, but Kapranos squashed these by saying “I think we’re incapable of making an afro-beat album. It’s always going to sound like a Franz Ferdinand album.” The singer went on to claim that the album wold in fact contain elements of a disco influence.

Initial sessions with pop wizard Brian Higgins were scrapped, and the band have taken their over the sessions, obviously keen to get things right. Amongst the tracks the band have played live which may appear on the new album are “Kathryn Kiss Me”, “Ulysses” and “Turn It On”.

There is new release date for the Franz Ferdinand album, however it is scheduled for early 2009.

Franz Ferdinand are set to play Connect Festival in Inveraray, Argyll on August 31st.
