Franz Ferdinand Praise Glastonbury

Scots indie types like Worthy Farm

With the last fans exiting the site and workers moving in to dismantle the area it seems to be official – this year’s Glastonbury was a triumph.

It has been all so different from last year. After announcing Jay-Z as a headliner Glastonbury endured a torrid time in the press, with Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher amongst those to take a pot shot at the event.

In a recent interview organiser Michael Eavis revealed how slow ticket sales had left the festival on the brink of bankruptcy. The legendary festival figure also stated he felt that could have been the last ever Somerset event, and it is widely felt that criticism added to the organisers decision to stand down.

However this year Glastonbury has struck back with a sensational bill and a well organised, completely sold out event. Breaking new records with the number of campers on site early, nearly 100,000 people descended on the event before the main arena was even open.

Scottish indie rockers Franz Ferdinand were amongst the stars of the weekend, rolling out the hits for the Worthy Farm crowd. Recent album ‘Tonight: Franz Ferdinand’ was a huge success, and the buoyant band were on jubilant form.

Speaking to the NME singer Alex Kapranos was effusive in his praise of the legendary event. “It’s not just a rock festival, there’s so much more going on, you can walk around Glastonbury, have an amazing time and not watch a single band,” he said.

“I think that’s what makes it different from any other festival. It’s also an incredibly comprehensive festival in terms of the demographic of people that come to it.”

“It’s not like just an indie crowd or a rock crowd… It’s everybody. There’s a sliver of every part of society here apart from the unpleasant ones!”

If you missed out on watching Franz Ferdinand at Glastonbury then don’t worry! The Scottish indie giants are due to play a very special free show as part of the iTunes festival in London’s historic Roundhouse venue.

Joining the likes of Snow Patrol, Paulo Nutini and Oasis tickets will no doubt be in high demand for this very special show.

Franz Ferdinand are due to play London’s Roundhouse venue on July 6th.
