Foo Fighters On Their Band Name

Dave Grohl opens up

Foo Fighters drummer Dave Grohl has revealed how he managed to come across the band’s name.

When you stop to think about it, some of the biggest bands on the planet have had silly names. The Beatles is in fact a pretty poor pun, while The Sex Pistols is an example of tittering, school boy humour.

One of the biggest rock groups on the planet, Foo Fighters have also been given cause to regret their choice of name. Speaking ahead of their British shows next summer, Dave Grohl revealed that had he given it more thought perhaps the band would have been called something more appropriate.

“Around the time that I recorded the first FF tape (that became the first record), I was reading a lot of books on UFO’s. Not only is it a fascinating subject, but there’s a treasure trove of band names in those UFO books!” he said.

“So, since I had recorded the first record by myself, playing all the instruments, but I wanted people to think that it was a group, I figured that FOO FIGHTERS (WW2 term for UFO’s) might lead people to believe that it was more than just one guy. Silly, huh?”

Continuing, Dave Grohl insisted that a more appropriate name could have been chosen. “Had I actually considered this to be a career, I probably would have called it something else, because it’s the stupidest fucking band name in the world.”

Returning next year with an album of new material, Foo Fighters have unveiled two enormous British shows. Taking control of the Milton Keynes Arena, the band will be joined by an all star cast.

Due to take place on July 2nd and 3rd, tickets for the shows go on sale from 9am this Friday (November 5th).
