American rock megastars Foo Fighters have debuted a new track for an audience consisting of President Barack Obama and newly decorated US military heroes.
Foo Fighters were formed from the ashes of Nirvana. Devastated by the suicide of his friend Kurt Cobain the band’s drummer Dave Grohl channelled his energy into his new project. Playing every instrument himself, the band’s self-titled debut album was an immediate his on its release in 1995.
Since then Grohl has gathered a band around him, with the former drummer taking centre stage. However Foo Fighters went on hiatus last year, and since then little has been heard from the group.
Dave Grohl of course contributed to the Prodigy’s new album ‘Invaders Must Die’. Sending the group drum beats the rave heroes seized on the contributions, basing much of their new material around Grohl’s tub thumping style.
The drummer is also set to join a bona fide super group. Together with Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones the trio have been working on new material which is set to be released sometime in the near future.
However Foo Fighters retain a special place in the hearts of their fans. The band are currently working on new material with Butch Vig, the man responsible for overseeing the production of ‘Nevermind’.
Taking to the stage in a special concert at the White House on July 4th the band decided to treat the audience to a never before heard song. The show took place on the South Lawn of the iconic building, with Foo Fighters playing to over 1200 troops and their families.
Titled ‘Wheels’ the song is due to appear on a forthcoming album. Set for release in November the album has yet to be given a title, but it is thought to consist of tracks Foo Fighters are currently recording at their own 606 Studio Complex.
