Fontaines DC’s Grian Chatten Goes Solo With ‘The Score’

"Your heart's been tethered to a sinking stone..."

Fontaines DC frontman Grian Chatten has shared new solo track ‘The Score’.

The Irish band stormed across 2022, with their third album ‘Skinty Fia’ winning universal plaudits. Playing some outstanding live shows, Fontaines DC finished their UK commitments with a run of breathless performances at London’s eventim Apollo.

It seems that frontman Grian Chatten isn’t about to stop there. Speculation about a potential solo project has born fruit, and the Dublin singer has shared an intriguing new single.

Out now, ‘The Score’ opens with a deft acoustic picking pattern, reminiscent of Nick Drake – who, funnily enough, Fontaines DC recently covered. Gradually evolving into a whispered incantation, ‘The Score’ absorbs left-field pop influences, while also introducing flecks of electronic production.

Subdued and subtle, it’s an oddly powerful introduction – beneath its quiet intensity, some heavy emotions lie. He sings: “Your heart’s been tethered to a sinking stone…”

The songwriter comments…

“‘The Score’ is a heavyweight bated breath of lust. I wrote it in Madrid between an electric fan and a dying plant and I intend to keep it there. It was inspired by sugar and sunset.”
