Foals Smash Up Stage

Frustration Shows At London Gig

Oxford math rock troupe Foals smashed up their equipment last night (September 23rd) after a show dogged by sound problems.

The band played the tiny Hoxton Hall in London in front of only a handful of fans. Lead singer Yannis Philippakis suffered sound problems throughout the gig, with his amp seeming to be at fault. During the band’s final song “Electric Bloom” his microphone came loose, an act which sealed the fate of the unfortunate PA.

Throwing his microphone away Phillippakis went on a brutal spree of carnage, trashing his amp and careering round the stage. Bassist Walter Gervers attempted to intervene, but failed to prevent the singer causing more damage. The singer then wrecked the drums before hurling himself into the crowd and leaving the venue.

The band had, until that point, played a typically tight if uneventful set. Beginning with their now customary jam, Foals played the bulk of their debut album “Antidotes” as well as early single “Hummer”.

Foals are currently working on new material, but so far the only evidence of this is the formless jams the band play live. One of the most striking debut albums of the year so far, “Antidotes” is a major mark in the sand for the group.
