Oxford math rock titans Foals could be set to crack the Top Five with their new album ‘Total Life Forever’.
Foals were formed from the wreckage of acclaimed math rock group The Edmund Fitzgerald, making a conscious vow to be more streamlined, more linear and more commercial.
Debut album ‘Antidotes’ was a huge success, spawning a raft of soundalike groups. Secluding themselves in Sweden to work on a follow up, Foals have returned with material which is both more commercial yet equally more ambitious.
Released on Monday (May 12th) ‘Total Life Forever’ is an expansive follow up to their debut. Foals worked on the album in almost total isolation, focussing on their music and crafting some lush soundscapes.
Selling well, ‘Total Life Forever’ could be set to gatecrash the charts. Foals are currently at number four on the mid week countdown, with the all important Saturday sales yet to be added to the final tally.

Ahead of the band are Keane, who sit at number one with their outlandish new effort ‘Night Train’. Featuring electronics, rappers and more the EP ranks as the band’s ‘Kid A’ but whether they can pull it off is open to question.
The band’s first new material since their hugely successful album ‘Perfect Symmetry’ Keane have chosen to experiment as never before. Possibly their most daring release, ‘Night Train’ is seemingly proving to be extremely popular.
Brooklyn group The National have enjoyed overwhelming acclaim with their new album ‘High Violet’. Storming into the British charts, the band are currently at number three and could yet rise when the final figures are tallied.
