Brit award nabbing newcomers Florence And The Machine are set to release their debut album soon, which has been named ‘Lungs’.
Helmed by Florence Welch, the group emerged at the tail end of 2008 playing a number of seismic gigs. A support slot with wide eyed Brooklyn types MGMT brought them to a new audience, enraptured by Welch’s stage presence and the group’s thoughtful pop.
Florence And The Machine have some friends in high places. Lightspeed Champion was an initial collaborator with the group, while Razorlight’s Johnny Borrell co-wrote a song with the band back in their early days.
The new album was produced by James Ford and Paul Epworth. A stunning pairing, between the two producers they are responsible for albums by Bloc Party, Klaxons and many more.
Speaking to the BBC Florence Welch claimed she arrived at the title after she “just sort of thought of it”.
“There’s something about machine lungs and it reminds me of iron lungs,” she said.
“It’s physical, but also when you’re a singer it’s all about controlling your lungs and they become part of your body’s machinery.
“It’s all about controlling your air and they’re so central to singing. I’ve just become really obsessed with them as an image but also they’re kind of weird and fleshy. They’re all over the place.”
Florence And The Machine are due to release their new album ‘Lungs’ later this year.
