Fleetwood Kelly has shared his debut album, ‘just happy to be here’.
Showcasing his strengths as a songwriter and performer, the LA-based musician fuses together the sounds of classic Americana with modern pop. Across the project, Kelly pieces together reflective, universal lyrics which seep into his rich tones, connecting with listeners from all walks of life. At the heart of the record is ‘like you’, an infectious offering that picks up the pace and confronts stubborn relationship dynamics. Incorporating flecks of synth work, groovy basslines and a snappy percussion, the track makes way for a soaring hook which urges crowds to join in.
First discovering his love for storytelling behind the piano, Fleetwood Kelly found himself immersed in a broad range of influences, from Lady Gaga to Barbara Streisand and Earth, Wind & Fire. Since then, the songwriter has established himself as a versatile force, illustrating his journey from Pennsylvania to the city of angels.
Speaking on his lastest work, Fleetwood Kelly Shares: “like you” is one of my favourite tracks on the album — not just because it’s incredibly fun to perform live, but also because it was the first time I allowed myself to be angry in my music. I wrote it about an ex who was more interested in his public appearance than building a lasting relationship. Lyrically, “like you” plays with the concept of being in a “love triangle” with a narcissist and their public persona, which is complicated further by the fact that neither person was “out” at the time.”
Tune in now.
