American band Fleet Foxes have been one of the most talked about groups of the year, but their current success is a long way from their time in high school, they admit.
Seattle based group Fleet Foxes have stormed stereos all over the globe with their self-titled debut album, the band’s intricate harmonies forming in after hours sessions at High School. Lead singer Robin Pecknold has spoken to US magazine Rolling Stone, and admits that for him school was “a pretty isolating time”.
Now in a successful group, playing onstage with heroes Wilco, Pecknold admits he remains a shy individual. “I don’t really hang out with anyone,” Pecknold says. “I’ll hang out with my band, because I love them, but I don’t have any friends aside from that.”
All that alone time makes it hard to go on the road, as the singer admits. “I’m so used to being alone that it’s been hard to tour and be thrown into that kind of social environment,” he says. “But I’m getting used to it.”
Fleet Foxes play Later… With Jools Holland on Friday November 7th.
