American group Fleet Foxes have completed work on their highly anticipated second album.
Fleet Foxes have a lot to answer for. Their hugely successful debut album has spawned a raft of imitators on both sides of the Atlantic, sending gently plucked guitars and sighing harmonies back into the charts.
While the excesses of nu-folk might be hard to bear, Fleet Foxes remain a charming, bewitching collective. The Seattle group scored enormous acclaim with their debut, and have spent the last few months crafting a follow up.
Retreating to their studio, the band began work earlier this year. Now in a short message to fans on his Facebook page frontman Robin Pecknold has confirmed that Fleet Foxes are set to begin mixing the material.
“Well, recording is done!” Pecknold wrote. “We are flying to New York tomorrow to mix and master the album and will have information about (the) release date and when you’ll get to hear a song or two soon. Geologically soon but soon.”
Fleet Foxes are now set to begin mixing their second album, with no release date confirmed for the material.
Elsewhere on the band’s Facebook page Fleet Foxes namechecked Swedish group Dungen before revealing that they were in the process of “planning tours” – watch this space!
In a previous interview the Seattle group confirmed that their new record will “definitely” be released in 2010. However singer Robin Pecknold recently took time out to play a number of solo shows.
Personally asked by Joanna Newsom, the frontman clearly felt that the offer was too good to refuse. Playing a number of shows with the Californian maverick, Robin Pecknold focussed on previously released Fleet Foxes material – shying away from airing tracks destined for their second album.
Fleet Foxes are due to release their second album later this year.
