American oddballs The Flaming Lips are set to surprise fans by offering them a free digital EP with ticket purchases on their forthcoming American tour.
The Flaming Lips are one of the most continually inventive bands of their generation. From their stage craft to their outfits to their music, the band continually shock and surprise their fans with their ground breaking imagination.
At a recent headline show at Scotland’s RockNess festival the band emerged onstage in an enormous bubble, before rattling through a ‘greatest hits’ set to the clear delight of fans present. Taking time to thank them, Wayne Coyne then invited a group of Tellytubbies onstage with the band for a singalong finale.

However the group have not released new material since 2006’s ‘At War With The Mystics’. The Flaming Lips have instead been concentrating on their movie ‘Christmas On Mars’ which was finally released last year.
The band also released a soundtrack album, which contained some truly bizarre moments. The Flaming Lips revealed earlier this year that they were working on a double album, with singer Wayne Coyne insisting that it was almost ready to release.
With the group working on the final tracklisting and song titles, The Flaming Lips have decided to give fans a special preview by offering a free EP containing three entirely new songs.
All taken from forthcoming album ‘Embryonic’ the track names are – ‘Convinced Of The Hex’, ‘The Impulse’ and ‘Silver Trembling Hands’.
In addition to this the band will offer three very rare B-sides specially selected by them. To claim your free EP, however, you must be attending shows on their upcoming United States tour.
All ticket holders will be entitled to the download bundle, with the buyer also able to claim a digital download of the show they attend.
The band’s twelfth album, ‘Embryonic’ was recorded in Fredonia, New York and Oklahoma City with long time producer Dave Fridmann.
The Flaming Lips are due to kick off their United States tour on August 15th.
