Flaming Lips Cancel Festival Appearance

After Steven Drozd is taken to hospital

American psych-pop outlaws The Flaming Lips have cancelled an upcoming festival appearance after Steven Drozd was taken to hospital.

Flaming Lips have been busy of late. The band’s latest studio offering ‘Embryonic’ was an ambitious double album, mixing prog, Krautrock and more into perhaps their most outlandish record in a decade.

Heading straight back into the studio after the album’s releases, Flaming Lips returned with a new version of ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’. Featuring appearances from Henry Rollins, Peaches and more the album was released on gatefold vinyl in time for Record Store Day.

Touring widely, The Flaming Lips are currently visiting a variety of festivals across America. However new developments have meant that the Oklahoma band have pulled a slot at this year’s SunFest.

Multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd has been taken to hospital, with the band refusing to release any further details.

Reported by Pitchfork, SunFest will continue as normal with a replacement headliner. Meanwhile, doubts have been cast over Flaming Lips appearance at the Memphis In May event this Saturday (May 1st).

Always in demand for festival appearances, Flaming Lips headlined RockNess last year. Taking to the main stage, the psych-pop outfit were accompanied by a group of dancing Teletubbies.

Meanwhile, recent interviews with Wayne Coyne have revealed that Flaming Lips are working on a new film. Fans shouldn’t hold their breath, however – their previous movie ‘Christmas On Mars’ took some four years to complete.
