Coming of age in an environment informed by hip hop and grime, George The Poet always had a way with words.
Fusing this musical love with a literary obsession, the London artist developed a unique style. Winning enormous acclaim – including a recent BRIT Critics Choice nomination – George The Poet could be set to take his distinctive style straight to the top.
Part of a new wave of spoken word artists gaining admiring glances from the mainstream (Kate Tempest scooped a Mercury nomination, for example) it's clear that George The Poet is only the tip of a highly distinct creative community.
Currently battling against the pack for MTV Brand New 2015 in association with Emporio Armani Diamonds (vote for your favourite HERE), George The Poet stopped just long enough to give Clash his five tips for aspiring spoken word artists.

Stay on message – if you have something to say, never postpone it.
Take constructive criticism – poetry can be quite an introspective art, don't become too self-absorbed.
Be creative with music – music to words is like colour to drawings.
Represent – be about something and stand by it.
MAKE YOURSELF MATTER beyond the standard. Give people different reasons to engage with your talent – entertain!
