Nigerian creative Fireboy DML goes deep on new project ‘adedamola’.
The Nigerian artist is part of a golden wave of young talent emerging from the country, breaking the glass ceiling in the process. Scoring a global hit with Ed Sheeran – the unreal ear-worm ‘Peru’ – he melts together afrobeats, hip-hop production aspects, and a dose of pop.
Out now, new project ‘adedamola’ emphasises his creative depth, and it comes shortly after his viral performance at BET.
The project taps into his roots – one track pairs Fireboy DML against Seun Kuti, afrobeat innovator Fela Kuti’s son – while also looking to the future. Guests include Lojay, Jon Batiste, and Spinall, while the voice that resonates most deeply is Fireboy’s own.
A diverse project, there’s also an innate unity to the release, moving from open to close – via outright banger ‘Change Your Life’.
