Fiery Furnaces Plan Ten New Albums

Yes, that's right... TEN

Fiery Furnaces are planning to release a total of ten new albums over the course of the next 12 months.

Bands work at different rates. Some – step forward Guns N Roses – take up to a decade to record new material while others manage to write an album in the time if takes to order a taxi to the studio.

Brooklyn duo Fiery Furnaces obviously like to keep busy, after revealing plans to record a total of ten albums in 2011.

Matthew Friedberger let the news slip out in a recent interview. Alongside a new Fiery Furnaces album, the singer is planning to craft a grand total of eight solo albums in just twelve months.

Released on a subscription basis, the vinyl only album set will be called ‘Solos’. Featuring Matthew Friedberger on his own, the Brooklyn singer’s voice will be accompanied by just one other instrument.

“Playing rock, except for driving around and carrying equipment in and out of a van and getting bedbugs from the motel and that kind of thing, you don’t have to work very hard, so it seems,” Friedberger told Entertainment Weekly.

“So I thought it would be fun to have way too many things to do.”

‘Solos’ will contain six albums, with two bonus LPs available to subscribers. The first instalment is set to be called ‘Napoleonette’ and will be released in January. “I chose that (‘Napoleonette’) to be the title because the piano is a very imperious, imperial instrument,” he explained.

“Scraping the strings in the piano for percussive effects (and) beating on the wood of the piano.”

Meanwhile, Eleanor Friedberger is plotting a solo album which, combined with a Fiery Furnaces album, brings the grand total to ten.
