F*cked Up Confirm Christmas Single

'Do They Know It's Christmas?' cover planned

Canadian hardcore punk types Fucked Up are set to release a special cover version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’.

It’s one of the most iconic moments in pop music. Stars from across the globe gathered at the behest of Bob Geldof to record a one off single.

Becoming a record breaking hit ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ spawned numerous imitators, including an American equivalent. The track has remained an enduring Christmas classic, with two new versions being recorded.

Now it seems that the classic festive favourite is due to get the Fucked Up treatment. The band are fresh from scooping the Polaris prize – Canada’s equivalent of the Mercury – and are due to put the prize money towards something worthwhile.

Going home with a $20,000 cheque Fucked Up have roped in some pals for an unusual take on the evergreen Yuletide anthem.

“(We already have) David Cross, members of Vampire Weekend, TV On The Radio, Broken Social Scene, the GZA, Bob Mould, No Age, and Yo La Tengo all confirmed.” Frontman Pink Eyes told Vulture.

“I’m still waiting on confirmation from Feist, Jarvis Cocker and MIA. We wanted the biggest people we could get. If we could get a Jonas Brother on this, I would get a Jonas Brother” the singer added.

Pink Eyes confirmed that the track would be used to raise money for charities such as Justice For The Missing.

Of course, Fucked Up won’t be the only alternative stars celebrating Christmas this year. The Killers and Julian Casablancas are also due to release very special festive anthems.

No release date has been set for the new version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’
