Liverpool based songwriter Eugene McGuinness is preparing to release his second album, less than six months after he launched his self-titled debut album.
Hailing from London, Eugene McGuinness journeyed up to Liverpool to study and quickly became entranced by the city’s music scene. After repeated attempts to form a band, the songwriter decided to strike out on his own.
Signing with Domino, Eugene McGuinness released his early EP ‘The Early Learnings Of…’ in the summer of 2007. Earning critical praise, the young talent almost immediately went into the studio to work on his full length debut.
Released late last year, Eugene McGuinness’ debut album was the work of a prodigious young talent. With a tender voice and songwriting that belies his years, McGuinness has built a cult following with a series of stunning shows. However even his fans will be shocked to learn that he has already completed work on his second album.
ClashMusic spoke to Eugene McGuinness at the Glasgow music event Hinterland, where he told us about the new material.
“The next album was recorded in five days. We didn’t have a producer. Well we had a producer, engineer guy” he claimed.
“It was all done live, and so it’s very ‘bandy’. Listened to Grinderman loads, and things like The Sonics. Just obscure bits and bobs. We’re trying to act cool with guitars.”
Since releasing ‘The Early Learnings Of…’ McGuinness has formed a band, with the new album being recorded with a number of other musicians. The songwriter also confirmed that the band have been working on a number of Sonics covers.
Enthusing about the new material McGuinness said “I don’t think anyone wants to hear a new album by me, but I can’t help it. It’s done. I’ll be ramming it in peoples faces, prancing about and stuff. I’m just really excited by it. The record is called ‘Glue’.”
So there we have it. Eugene McGuinness is set to release his new album ‘Glue’ later in the year.
