Elmiene Unveils New Project ‘For The Deported’

Tapping into his Sudanese heritage...

Elmiene taps into his Sudanese heritage for new project ‘For The Deported’.

The songwriter is making waves – recently selling out a headline show at London’s Troxy venue, he was nominated for the BRIT Rising Star and has now revealed his most personal project to date.

Out now, ‘For The Deported’ looks at his Sudanese heritage – it’s laden with the history, culture, poetry, and music of his forebears.

Yet it’s also broader than this. The current conflict in Sudan is often overlooked, but it’s part of a network of crises creating a displaced generation. As a result, the six-song project looks to tell stories often unheard, favouring humanity over the headlines.

Beautifully composed, ‘For The Deported’ highlights Elmiene’s strengths as an artist – the towering vocal, and the sense of empathy in his musicality.

He states: “Sudan is the reason I feel like I am as musical as I am and why I am so inclined to poetry. Sudan is a country with a lot of history, tragedy, emotions, and feelings. It has a really deep cultural history. Sudan is the reason I’m here right now”.

He continues, “There’s a lot of deporting going on in our world. Whether it is Palestine, Sudan, Lebanon, or any other country, it is a real thing. I haven’t made a real comment or notion on it yet, and it just felt like a duty to my blood and role as an artist to make a statement. It all just feels right. If not now, then when?”
