With betting set to close at 5pm tonight (September 8th), Elbow have emerged as late contenders with bookmakers slashing their odds after a series of late bets.
The Manchester band are nominated for their album “The Seldom Seen Kid” which has earned across the board plaudits, with the title track becoming one of the band’s biggest hits to date. A series of large, and very late, bets has seen bookmakers slash their odds to 3/1 – making them joint second favourites along with Radiohead.
The current favourite for this year’s Mercury Music Prize is dubstep genius Burial, and his album “Untrue”. The reclusive urban star revealed his true identity after media speculation relating to his nomination. Token jazz entry Portico Quartet, meanwhile, are the outsiders along with Estelle – both are currently at 25/1.
