Elbow Get Celebrity Stalker

It's Lionel Ritchie!

Mercury award winners Elbow have revealed they have gained a celebrity stalker – none other than Lionel Ritchie!

The Bury band have come a long way since the release of ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ last year. Perhaps the band’s finest hour it won critical acclaim and went on to become a huge word of mouth success.

Elbow recently performed the album live in Abbey Road, accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra. The concert was broadcast live on television and radio, and showed just how striking a live group Elbow can be.

When the Mercury Music Prize came rolling round, Elbow were the people’s choice but few expected to best a field that included giants such as Radiohead. However Guy Garvey and co. did just that, before going on to win a ‘Brit Award’ earlier this week (February 18th).

The band seem to be taking their new found celebrity in their stride, though. Speaking to XFM before entering the Brits the group said “What are we doing here? It’s madness. Lionel Richie was behind us before. He needs to stop following us”.

The group were asked about their feelings on attending the Brit award show, replying “yeah, I’m looking forward to tonight. It’s an awards thing and it’s a bit of a gig. I’m looking forward to sitting down and watching the show”.

Elbow claimed ‘Best British Band’ at the Brits, and were also nominated for ‘Best British Album’.
