Ela Minus has shared plans for her album ‘DIA’.
The electronic musician’s ace 2020 debut ‘acts of rebellion’ was a fine introduction, sealing off a particular time and place in her life. Sketching out plans for a follow-up, sessions took place in her native Colombia, before using ad hoc studios on both sides of the Atlantic.
Listening back to the music, Ela Minus decided she needed to go deeper. Shaking up her life, she related to California’s Mojave Desert for a month, before forays to New York, the Washington countryside, Mexico City, and London.
New album ‘DIA’ is out on January 17th, with the opening song ‘ABRIR MONTE’ acting as a kind of summation of her intention.
Ela Minus comments…
“‘ABRIR MONTE’ is a phrase commonly used where I’m from, referring to the act of opening paths through dense foliage. I’ve always loved the poetry of it. That is what making this record felt like, opening new paths inward and outward, continuing to delve further through unexplored territory.”
New song ‘BROKEN’ is a dive into the unknown, with Ela locating a form of self-reflection in the myriad digitalism. She adds: “I started writing this thinking I was perfectly fine and finished writing knowing I was not.”
Tune in now.
