For over a decade now Mark “E” Everett and his rotating band of indie superstars have ploughed a very unique field in American music. From the dark introspection of “Electro Shock Blues” to the upbeat “Daisies of The Galaxy” Eels have built a huge cult fanbase around the world. To celebrate their tenth anniversary, the band now release their first “Best Of” and rarities collections on 21st January 2008.
The best of, entitled “Meet The Eels: Essential Eels Vol.1, 1996-2006”, contains 24 tracks spanning the bands career. The disc will be accompanied with 12 promotional videos on DVD.
The rarities album, meanwhile, will no doubt provide an opportunity for Eels to showcase the more neglected aspects of their oeuvre. Named “Eels Useless Trinkets: B-Sides, Soundtracks, Rarities and Unreleased” it is to contain 50 tracks and a 6-track DVD taken from the band’s Lollapalooza performance in 2006.
All music is to be digitally remastered, and each CD will be packaged with unseen photos, artefacts and Everett’s notes on each track. All in all, it looks like a great way to start 2008.
