Legendary Scottish singer Edwyn Collins is set to extend his exhibition of British birdlife, it has been announced.
The former singer with Orange Juice, Collins solo career has taken him from the highs of international hit ‘A Girl Like You’ to the lows of a double brain hemorrhage.
Collins’ battle with his health has touched everyone associated with music, and his solo album ‘Home Again’ was one of the most moving releases of the year.
The new exhibition was born out of a child’s love for the illustrations of Archibald Thorburn in Lord Lilford’s of the British Isles, first published around 1880. When recovering from the effects of his illness, Collins rediscovered his love of art, painstakingly teaching himself to draw again. The result was a massive project to draw one bird every day – dating each picture as he finished his work.
This unique combination of time and place makes for a fascinating insight into Edwyn Collins inspiring determination to recover from his illness, as well as a unique insight into an impassioned rediscovery of art.
Edwyn Collins: British Birdlife runs until November 15th in The Smithfield Gallery in London.
