Satirical indie-punk types Art Brut have been rocked after lead singer Eddie Argos suffered a back injury while touring in Europe.
Art Brut take their name from a form of outsider art. Never ashamed to be intelligent, their scratchy indie sound is topped off by the ever acerbic rants of frontman Eddie Argos. Cult heroes in Britain, the band are strangely massive across Europe, where the recent incident occurred.
The band are currently touring their third album ‘Art Brut Vs Satan’. The band’s first for their new home Cooking Vinyl, the album was produced by Pixies legend Frank Black. Recorded in America, it is perhaps Art Brut’s most ambitious and diverse album to date with one track clocking in at eight minutes.
Art Brut are currently on tour in Europe, but an injury to frontman Eddie Argos has placed the dates in doubt.
Speaking to the NME, Argos revealed that he thinks a back injury was triggered by his frenetic onstage actions. The singer claimed that the injury came over him suddenly, saying “we were in Amsterdam and I completely collapsed in a restaurant. I was carried out crying.”
“The doctor said anything can bring it on – stress or unusual movements. And I said, ‘Like skipping with a microphone lead on stage? Would that have done it? Is that an unusual movement?’ I was just showing off a bit on stage.”
However it seems that Eddie Argos is now on the road to recovery, and has been placed on a diet of painkillers to help get him through the tour.
“I can’t drink or anything because I’m on these painkillers, so bizarrely even though I hurt my back I’m the healthiest I’ve been in ages.
“Because we’re in foreign countries I don’t think people understand I’m not dancing because I’ve got a bad back – they just think I’m trying to be really cool. We’re playing in Hamburg tomorrow (May 13) and I hope I’m better by then – I like drinking in Hamburg.”
Art Brut’s new album ‘Art Brut Vs Satan’ is available now.
