Echo Lake’s Pete Hayes Passes Away

At the age of just 25

Echo Lake drummer Pete Hayes has passed awayat the age of just 25.

Initially, Echo Lake were a bedroom project. Posting mp3s online, the group’s wonderfully hazy songwriting added the sweetest of pop touches to the bitterest of noise.

Gradually expanding, their evolution into the full band format has been wonderful to witness. Tragically, Echo Lake revealed earlier today (June 24th) that drummer Pete Hayes has passed away.

Posting a statement on their Facebook page, the band said: “We are so sad to say that our close friend and brilliant drummer Peter Hayes passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 25.”

With the band understandably still shocked by the news, the statement continues: “If you knew Pete, then you’ll know what an amazing person he was. If you didn’t know Pete then all I can say is that he was a total one off”.

“Always caring, always giving, always straight up and always with such a positive outlook on life. That was the thing with Pete, he just got on with it. Even in his last few weeks he would be sitting up in his hospital bed smiling and having a laugh with me.”

Written by Thom Hill, the entire statement is a beautiful tribute to a very talented musician. Find it HERE.

Meanwhile, The Line Of Best Fit editor Rich Thane has set up a Just Giving page in memory of Pete Hayes. Find it HERE.
