E-Prime are the Blumas siblings, Trevor and Jaclyn, and they’re back with a new EP – an emblem of their rebirth into a pliable electronic act. Today, they announce a new EP ‘Dry Throats & Sunburns’, out October 11th via buzzy imprint Scenic Route.
After leaving their hometown of Toronto, the sibling duo channelled their creative energies into creating a sugary, sun-kissed amalgam of ’80s synthpop, ’90s R&B, throwback house, and more. Recalibrating after a period away, E-Prime inaugurate their new chapter with a cover of ‘Big Country’, originally the work of the Scottish band of the same name. Their version reimagines hometown glory into a refulgent, post-disco number.
With ‘Dry Throats and Sunburns’, E-Prime take listeners on a retro-futurist detour. Together they disentangle and breathe new life into digital and personal ephemera; taking the perspective of a celebrity bassist, a Twitter bot, or their own memories.
The accompanying video for ‘Big Country’ was produced by Michael Maruniak and directed by Trevor in his new hometown of Vancouver. “It felt like the perfect setting for a nouvelle vague-inspired video with all its conventions: cigarettes, wine, existentialism and modern alienation,” he says.
