Australian risers dust have shared atmospheric new cut ‘New High’.
Out now, the single follows their epic debut EP ‘et etcetera, etc’, and the follow-on remix project. Hailing from Newcastle in Australia, the band owe their origins to lockdown, before taking that energy out onstage after the pandemic receded.
Praised by everyone from Triple J to Nabihah Iqbal, dust are a force to be reckoned with – catch them supporting Interpol on their ‘Antics’ anniversary tour this week.
New single ‘New High’ is built around that sloping bassline, the ominous vocal offset by saxophone skronk. It takes the spirit of the Brixton Windmill and transplants it in another environment entirely, infusing the blissed out shoegaze of Beach House, say, within the slate grey post-punk template.
dust comment…
“It’s about those nights spent lying in a room illuminated by fairy lights, listening to dreamy music like Beach House, or watching the movie Her and feeling a deep sense of melancholy. Shifting between the warmth of solitude and the desire to move past the more painful aspects of isolation, it’s a reflection of both the comfort and complexity that come with being alone.”
