Duckwrth Shapeshifts On ‘Had Enough’

An authentic voice...

An electrifying ode to the allure of addiction, Duckwrth is fully ablaze on his latest single ‘Had Enough’. Ushering in a new era, it’d be unlike Duckwrth not to shapeshift, though he’s certainly his most stripped-raw yet.

Whether it’s the numbing of alcohol or the warmth of another body, any vice can destroy when over-consumed. Duckwrth is both fully aware and drunk with delusion on ‘Had Enough’, reluctantly clawing his way back to himself. “She’s a brown-eyed demon from the west side” is a line that anchors the song, blurring the lines between the addiction to substances and lust.

The funky alt-rock track isn’t too far left for the genre-defying alchemist, who is ready to “finally make the kind of music he listens to.” Since his introduction in 2012, Duckwrth has been abrasively authentic and effortlessly groovy, his most magnetizing qualities as an artist. As he begins to build out the atmosphere for his highly anticipated third studio LP, the modern-day Jimi Hendrix seems to be both his most confident and most vulnerable.

As he untangles himself from the bind of his own attachments, Duckwrth is born anew in “Hand Enough.” Its accompanying visual is captivating, daring you to blink as he dances through a near one-take journey. Directed by Alex ‘Grizz’ Loucas, the tug of war between consumption and liberation is palpable, yet it wouldn’t be Duckwrth if it wasn’t also a bit silly and childlike.

Eager to spark dialogue about substance abuse, mental health, and the power of self-awareness, Duckwrth’s art is an act of resilience. In breaking himself wide open, he offers a chance to see the shadows of ourselves in his doom.
