Dry Cleaning won a Grammy award last night (February 4th) for their album ‘Stumpwork’.
The band’s second album, the unveiling of the Rottingdean Bazaar and Annie Collinge cover art sent social media into a tizzy last year. Featuring an old bar of soap covered in detritus, the album title was spelled out… in pubic hair.
Rottingdean Bazaar and Annie Collinge first worked with Dry Cleaning on the ‘Scratchcard Lanyard’ video, perfectly offsetting the band’s surreal / caustic vision of reality.

Invited to work on the artwork for second album ‘Stumpwork’, they responded with something unusual. Chatting to Creative Review on its release, Annie Collinge said: “I had taken an iPhone picture of a blue soap with a curly hair on it, and Rottingdean Bazaar had done lots of things with pube lettering so suddenly it sparked an idea”.
“James and I have been working with pubic hair since we got together in 2015,” she continued. “It was one of the first materials we used and we made badges which spelled out words and people’s names. We still make them sometimes. This is the first time, however, we have used pubes to make a photograph.”
Well, it seems the Grammy committee are fans – ‘Stumpwork’ won Best Recording Package.
