Well regarded Brooklyn based drummer Jerry Fuchs has been killed in a tragic accident.
Jerry Fuchs first entered the music world when studying at the University Of Georgia. Studying graphic design he seemed to spend more time in the rehearsal room than the art studio.
Jamming with a group of close friends, this band would later evolve into Turing Machine. In an American musical landscape blighted by grunge, these dance punks were years ahead of their time taking on board Krautrock and disco rhythms.
Attracting the attention of DFA Records, Jerry Fuchs style became hugely influential. Joining the loose knit tribal collective known as !!! (chk chk chk) he would soon come to fame via their anarchic performances.
Groove based but deeply primitive, !!! only released one album in the shape of the quite sublime ‘Myth Takes’. Spawning the single ‘Me And Guiliani Down By The School Yard’ it turned the band into cult heroes.
Since then, Jerry Fuchs has worked with a variety of groups from the DFA stable including The Juan MacLean, LCD Soundsystem and demented dance punks MSTRKRFT.
Sadly, the drummer was killed in an accident in the early hours of Sunday morning (November 8th).
Attending a fund raising party the drummer was caught in a malfunctioning lift. Friends leaped from the elevator to the fifth floor, but after having his clothes catch on the elevator door the drummer fell to his death.
Jerry Fuchs was pronounced dead at 3:30am after being taken to Bellevue Hospital.
