Download: The Heatwave – ‘Five Million Rewinds’

A history of Jamaican music...

The Heatwave have posted a new mixtape, documenting 50 years of Jamaican music.

50 years ago today (August 6th) Jamaica was granted its independence from the UK. The island is set to celebrate in grand style, with some enormous public events being planned around the country.

Here in the UK, it’s a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the impact Jamaican culture has had on our every day life. London based soundsystem collective The Heatwave have seized the initiative, preparing a new mixtape which traces the evolution of Jamaican music.

Opening with Jimmy Cliff’s ‘Miss Jamaica’ – released in 1962, fact fans – the mixtape moves through the decades, matching stand out classics to lesser regarded gems.

Ending with a flurry of raw Dancehall, ‘Five Million Rewinds’ is a fantastic cross section of Jamaican music. Stream / download the mixtape below.
