The Streets have stunned fans by placing a never before heard song on the social networking site Twitter – and you can download it for free!
The Streets promised yesterday (April 15th) to release a new song on Twitter, though many doubted if this would actually occur. Songwriter Mike Skinner is a noted fan of the social networking site, with his regular ‘Tweets’ becoming cult reading.
The musician claimed to be working on a trilogy of songs, with each track begin written and recorded in one day. In order to inspired himself he stocked up on cult movies, with Skinner telling fans “”Right. ‘Handel’. Then ‘Usual Suspects’. Kevin Spacey inspiration. You won’t hear from me till tomorrow eve and a song I will have.”
True to his word, The Streets have uploaded a new track called ‘I Love My Phone’. Perhaps not the deepest title for a song ClashMusic have ever heard, but at least its new material by one of Britain’s best loved acts.
The Streets have always maintained that they would release five albums and then split up. With album number four dropping last year, the new material could be the first glimpse fans get of the band’s farewell.
Subsequent songs will be posted over the next two days. As he explained, the workload could be too much for him and he warned fans not to expect too much.
“Day 1 will be easy. I’ve got one nearly done,” he explained. “Day 2 easy. Day 3 is looking tricky. Might have to post a totally rubbish one.”
