Dubstep duo Mount Kimbie are offering a live version of their track ‘Ruby’ as a free download.
The definitions of dubstep are cracking apart, leading to some highly inventive new producers. Hailing from Brighton, Dominic Maker and Kai Campos make music under the name of Mount Kimbie and are expanding notions of what the genre can achieve.
Debut album ‘Crooks And Lovers’ was an overwhelming artistic success, mixing dubstep with elements of jazz and post-rock. Clipped garage beats give way to lush soundtrack scores, with Mount Kimbie defying categorisation.
Live, however, the duo turn into something quite special. Mount Kimbie stretch out their material, adding unexpected elements with plenty of live mixing and improvised instrumental passages.
Touring throughout the summer, Mount Kimbie have become a fixture at festivals. Admired beyond the dubstep scene, the duo’s experimental approach has seen them become embraced by indie rock fans.
With their new EP ‘Blind Night Errand’ due to be released shortly, Mount Kimbie have decided to release a free live track. ‘Ruby’ was recorded at Berlin’s Berghain venue and finds the duo stretching out into unexplored territory.
