Euros Child and Norman Blake are set to release the debut EP under their moniker Jonny.
Long time friends, Euros Child and Norman Blake sat down last year to begin making music together. Both have impeccable back catalogues, having helped steer Gorki’s Zygotic Mynki and Teenage Fanclub respectively.
Recording together in 2001, Euros Child remembers: “it just felt like he was part of the band… from that point on it always felt like we might do something together in the future, it just took a few years to actually get it organised”.
Settling down to write new material together, the pair began work on the album in Blake’s Glasgow home back in 2006. The duo played some fun shows and initially only planned to complete a quickfire EP.
However the sessions were so fruitful the pair decided to form a new group. Jonny were born, with their debut album due for release next year.
Ending five years of work, the band were named after an unusual image Norman Blake discovered for the album’s sleeve. “Sleeve first, band-name after”, confirms Childs, “that’s always the best way”.
Jonny are set to release their self-titled album on January 31st, with new single ‘Candyfloss’ due on January 17th.
As a special preview, the pair are planning to unveil a new free download EP. The aptly titled ‘Free EP’ is a collection of four non-album songs and is available to download from today (November 1st).
