Doves To Take Break From The Studio

No new material for at least two years

Manchester indie giants Doves have revealed that they are set to take a two year break from recording.

Doves like to do things at their own pace. Returning last year with their new album ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ the band ended a four year wait for new material, delighting fans with a typically anthemic brand of melancholy.

Touring across the UK in celebration, the group also found time to sneak out a new ‘Best Of’ collection. A swift reminder of just how potent Doves’ music can be, it seems that fans will have to wait a while for any new material.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Doves singer Jimi Goodwin claimed that the band needed to have some time to themselves. “It’s nice just to have a bit of breathing space,” he revealed.

“We just wanted to get off that whole album-tour-album-tour treadmill. None of us are ready to face going into the studio for another two years. This is wiping the slate clean, we have nothing else in the vaults now. That is it. Whatever we do from now on will be a new start.”

Meanwhile, Goodwin also revealed that he is planning to work with Elbow singer Guy Garvey. The pair are close friends, and have apparently been talking about a possible collaboration for a decade.

“Me and Guy (Garvey) have been talking about it endlessly for years,” he explained. “There are a couple of tracks that we have passed back and forwards to each other but it’s having the time.”

“We keep trying to get our diaries together, who knows if it will ever get released. I’m just waiting to see what might happen.”

Doves are set set to play a host of festivals this summer, including Scotland’s wildest party at RockNess. Alongside this the band will perform at V, Green Man, Eden Sessions and other events.
