Manchester group Doves have denied that they are to split after the release of their forthcoming ‘Best Of’.
Doves formed Phoenix like from the ashes of dance group Sub Sub. We mean that literally – the band lost their electronic equipment in the fire, and were forced to make music on old fashioned guitars.
It proved to be a blessing in disguise. Going on to become a hugely respected group, Doves are to popular that hometown team Manchester City even asked them to help launch the team’s new strip earlier this year.
However new collection ‘The Places Between: The Best Of Doves’ has sparked rumours of a split. Singer Jez Williams recently gave an interview which sparked fears amongst fans for the band’s future.
Speaking to The Observer, Williams claimed that he had been mis-quoted. “It is our last tour for a bit. I never said forever,” he said.
Drummer Andy Williams added: “I was like: ‘The band are splitting up!? No one told me.”
‘The Places Between: The Best Of Doves’ was released yesterday (April 5th). Telling the band’s story from their earliest recordings to a batch of new material, the collection also contains a number of rare tracks.
Containing studio outtakes, B-sides and much more ‘The Places Between’ is an excellent summation of Doves career.
