Manchester group Doves could be set to write a film score before beginning work on a new album.
Doves like to make fans wait. After the success of their album ‘Some Cities’ it was widely expected that the group would return with a new album shortly after, which could have propelled them into the upper echelons of the charts.
However the band became bogged down in successive tours before taking a break for personal reasons. Returning with renewed energy Doves eventually released ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ earlier this year – after a four year break between albums.
Now in a new interview singer Jimi Goodwin has suggested that Doves aim to work on a soundtrack before beginning sessions for a potential follow up album.
Speaking to Gigwise the frontman said “we need to shake things up by doing something. I don’t know what it’ll be.”
“Scoring a film. We’re always saying that and no-one seems to pick up on it, but we’d fucking love to score a film.”
Probed further about his ambitions to write a soundtrack, Goodwin said: “We just always have. Hopefully you can hear it in our music. Everything is very filmic and we’ve often sampled many of the TV cop films of old. We’ve been doing that since we were in (former band) Sub Sub.”
“I think we need to get out of this album – tour, album – tour (routine) and now more than ever with the industry almost in ruins,” he added.
“There’s no fucking rules, we don’t have to get back on that trip.”
Doves are scheduled to play a huge homecoming show in Manchester this December.
