Dove Cameron has shared her new single ‘Sand’.
Out now, it finds the songwriter – and Emmy award-winning actress – looking towards her new album, with ‘Alchemical Volume 1’ set to land on December 1st. Explicitly autobiographical, it deals with “my own personal experience with love, sex, loss, trauma, darkness and eventually transformation and healing.”
New single ‘Sand’ leans on the emotive nature of her work, a tender ballad that actually started as a poem Dove had written as a diary entry. Using the words to guide her melody, the results are delicate, evocative, and perfectly frame her feelings.
Words about heartbreak and recovery, ‘Sand’ refuses to dim the pain, while also looking to the future.
“‘Sand’ is about a person who I loved very much, and who I thought I was going to spend my life with,” shared Dove. “It’s about the experience of having that seemingly perfect relationship end so suddenly and without warning, the feeling of shock and overnight disintegration of the future you built together, realizing no matter how much i gave of myself, I still had so little of them in the end, and the feeling of being unable to get back even the smallest pieces of myself that I had given away.”
