Douglas Dare has shared his latest single, ‘Three Roads’.

A pulsing, avant-garde record from the British pop artist, Dare marks his steps in a new direction. Straying away from the acoustic instrumentation that formed his earlier material, the singer-songwriter now finds himself immersed in the dance floor, leaning into synth pads and drum machines. ‘Three Roads’ taps into the influences of electro, breaks and experimental, a glimmer of escapism that explores the complexities of self-identity.

The track captures the opening moments of Dare’s upcoming LP ‘Omni’, due to land on May 10th via Erased Tapes. A distinctly club-adjacent collection of tracks, the record celebrates nightlife, queerness and the art of storytelling. Illustrating the early experiences that have built the album, Dare casts his mind back:  “‘Three Roads’ came to me when I was aimlessly wandering the City of London streets during the pandemic,” he explains. “The office towers were all empty but still there were all these disparate characters, like me, also walking somewhere. I started to feel like a player in a video game, like being in Grand Theft Auto without a mission I could observe the game itself. All these other players with their own stories and all these possible streets we could turn down; ultimately though, we all had one shared objective, to get through the day, the pandemic, through life.”

Arriving alongside a performance recorded at Faith Restore Studio, the artist gears up towards his forthcoming tour, kicking things off with a headline show at London’s Corsica Studios on May 9th. Travelling between Berlin, Paris, Copenhagen and beyond, the months ahead mark a turning point for Douglas Dare, one that ‘Three Roads’ creates a soundtrack for.

Tune in now.
