One of the most individual voices in hip hop is set to gather some of his rarest material with DOOM confirming a new compilation.
Real name Daniel Dumile, DOOM is one of the most distinctive voices in hip hop. Whereas many rappers are concerned with bling and bitches DOOM has used hip hop as a vehicle for his own free-wheeling creativity.
Born in England, DOOM came of age in New York. Forming the group KMD he began making rap music, with the group being snapped up by Elektra Records. However in the same week that his brother was tragically killed the group were dropped, leading DOOM to leave the music industry.
Returning after three years, it seemed that the rapper was in no mood to take prisoners. Ferociously creative, DOOM soon became an underground hero releasing several albums to huge acclaim.
Joining forces with the producer Madlib the rapper came to wider acceptance, launching a series of new projects. Recording with Danger Mouse the pair released the celebrated album ‘Danger Doom’.
Returning this year with a new album, it seems that DOOM is keen to collect some of his lesser known recordings. With a list of co-conspirators including Talib Kweli and Ghostface & GZA as well as Vast Aire, Count Bass D & Kurius, forthcoming album ‘Unexpected Guests’ is heavy on collaboration.
Peppered with his signature comic book dialogue and vintage sound clips, ‘Unexpected Guests’ presents a treasure trove of DOOM obscurities which should shed light on material that even some hardcore fans may have missed.
DOOM is set to release ‘Unexpected Guests’ on October 27th. Tracklisting is as follows:
