Doherty To Write For BBC Claims

Singer could pen new drama

Reports in the British tabloids suggest that Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty could be set to work with the BBC on a new drama series.

Pete Doherty has long been an inspiration on television and film. The star’s unique image and magnetic persona were thought to be the source for last year’s film ‘Rock N Rolla’ – which followed a suspiciously familiar indie icon.

Now reports are suggesting that Doherty may be set to cut out the middle man and write his own series for the BBC. The singer is currently on a UK tour promoting his solo album ‘Grace / Wastelands’. An artistic success it features Blur guitarist Graham Coxon throughout and was produced by renowned soundsmith Stephen Street.

According to The Sun newspaper the series will be a “Skins-style show on the dark side of the music industry”.

“They want a pilot episode written in the next six weeks which will become a series, if he can come up with the goods,” an unnamed source said.

“Beeb bosses think Pete has a creative streak that will produce some gritty TV. He’s seen it all as a hellraising rock star, so they want his experiences written in.”

Pete Doherty has yet to comment on the rumours. The singer is continuing his solo tour which recently saw him joined on stage by former La’s singer Lee Mavers. A hero of Doherty’s, the pair posted a video of themselves jamming on the internet earlier this year.

There is no premiere date for the Pete Doherty television series.
